A friend of mine recently shared his money making experience on Craigslist with me. I was very pleased! I love hearing about other people’s success, it is inspiring! But, what he told me got me extra excited because he made a killing in a category I have never used before, “Tickets”. My friend is a huge Michigan State fan, so it was no surprise to me when he told me the tickets were MSU tickets. He explained that he purchased these Spartan football tickets
A Few Months Prior to when the game took place. He bought them for $50. He went on to say, that as the season progressed he became more and more excited to watch this game due to MSU’s success. They were looking to win the Big Ten Championship. Moreso, the Big Ten title was going to be determined by the game he would be attending! Not surprisingly, he was devastated when a week before the big game he found out he could not attend because of work. He contemplated letting the tickets go unused, that progressed to giving them away, but he finally decided, “What have I got to lose?” I’ll put them on Craigslist and Stubhub.
Due to the importance of this particular game (Big Ten title on the line) tickets were selling for hundreds and hundreds of dollars. My friend was shocked! He knew he could get his money back by selling them, but to potentially make three, four, five hundred extra dollars; wow! He sold his MSU ticket for a whopping $700 a few days later, a $650 gain! He was beyond thrilled! Suffice it to say, you can make money through the “tickets” section of Craigslist my friend is proof of that.
What is important to take away from this anecdote is timing. In the above scenario, exceptional results were achieved from perfect timing. Everything fell into place. The ticket was purchased before the season at bargain prices, Michigan State played well throughout the year adding value to end of the season tickets, they were competing for the Big Ten championship, and this one game would decide if they won or not. The stars had completely aligned for this to happen, yet that does not mean there is no potential here, albeit it may be a gamble.
If you are knowledgeable in sports and believe one of your local teams is going to have a championship year it may be worth a shot buying a ticket to one of the games late in the year….you never know. And most likely you’ll be able to recoup your money if your team only does average. Try it out, try to sell tickets on Craigslist. I can’t guarantee extreme wealth like my friend had, but I can guarantee, “Nothing ventured. Nothing gained.”
